Garou being bullied by Tacchan as a kid

As a child, Garou was unpopular and a social outcast. At school, while he was reading a book, a popular boy named Tacchan and another student were playing heroes, after Garou tried to make Tacchan realize it was dangerous to kick another student from high ground, Tacchan declared Garou to be the new villain and himself as Justice Man. He tried to kick Garou, Garou dodged, but after Tacchan missed and hurt himself, to which Garou apologizes. Tacchan asked him what was he doing, pointed out that Garou was the monster, and then kicked him in the face while making others kids to restrain him. Later Garou tried to stand up for himself by making Tacchan fight him to make him realize that he cannot bully Garou anymore, but the other children gathered around and started defending Tacchan, saying it was just how the game works. Tacchan then cowardly asked other children to pin Garou to the ground and called the teacher while running away. Garou noticed how Tacchan was the one always smiling, liked by everyone, and was good at everything, even though he was a jerk; while Garou was alone, gloomy, and had no friends. When talking to his uncaring and unsympathetic teacher, he ignored Garou and simply lectured him on how he should not be fighting and what might have happened if it had continued as well as reprimanding him for not distinguishing reality and game. After he was done, he forced the crying Garou to apologize and then notified his parents. Garou eventually snapped, coming to see the fraudulent heroes as nothing more than a bunch of self-important bullies who are preying on the weak and outcast of what he believed to be a reviled social order like him. All while receiving praise from other people who equally hate said undesirables.

On another occasion, Garou watched the Justice Man TV show and was rooting for the villains to win. He became frustrated every time Justice Man comes and stops them. He asked his father when there would be a villain that could defeat Justice Man, but only to hear the negative; he believed it did not make sense, as he reasoned that the monsters were the ones who are always trying their best, but no matter what, they were always killed off unfairly in the end simply because they were monsters. Unwilling to accept the status quo, Garou resolved to become the strongest monster and never lose to anyone, seeking to change such a dilapidated scenario.

Garou meets Bang

Sick of being a helpless kid throughout his childhood, he became determined to be stronger. Because of this, he decided to venture to Bang's dojo during his adolescence, traveling very far to meet the martial artist. When he arrived at the dojo, he rudely demanded to know if Bang was strong. Sour Face chimed in and asked who the arrogant child is when Garou passed out from the exhaustion of venturing to the dojo. Sour Face asked Bang if he should throw Garou out, but the hero was impressed by Garou's determination, telling Sour Face to feed him until he was full when he woke up. After this, Bang accepted Garou as a student, and Garou quickly became the top student in Bang's dojo. After observing Sour Face's difficulties in smashing ceramic tiles during training, Garou outperformed his senior by successfully smashing all but one tile, even after adding extra tiles to the already considerable tower. Bang was impressed by Garou's performance, yet he noted the one tile missed at the very bottom. This served as a reminder to Garou that he still had much ground to cover in perfecting his technique.

Six months prior to the Super Fight martial arts tournament that Saitama attended, he decided that he has nothing left to learn and rampaged through the dojo, disabling many of the students, including Sour Face. He then received a beating from Bang and was expelled from the dojo. While fleeing the dojo, Garou broke into a safe that contained the scrolls of secret techniques, and got a grasp of Exploding Heart Release Fist.

After his expulsion, Garou attended the Super Fight, disguising himself as Wolfman after incapacitating the real one and taking his mask. Garou won the tournament, although his identity remained unknown.

Hero Association Saga

Alien Conquerors Arc

Garou was mentioned by Bang, after Genos questions him about his dojo being filled with skilled fighters, after defeating Bangs "best disciple" Charanko. Bang reveals that the dojo used to be filled with skilled fighters until his best disciple, Garou, went on a rampage and disabled them all for life, scaring the rest away as well. Because of this, Bang expelled Garou after giving him a beating.

Garou Introduction Arc

Garou rips off Blue Fire's arm

During a meeting in the Hero Association headquarters in the middle of a coalition between a large group of villains and the Hero Association. He states himself as an extremely powerful individual, able to beat every present person by himself even if they gang up on him. He reveals that his presence on the location was merely to find strong opponents and to punish the cowards. After three heroes agree on taking him down it's revealed that Garou never liked heroes and always supported monsters because of his sympathy for their ambitions.

Garou takes his leave

After the flashback, he promised to become the strongest monster and change the scenario. He attacks three A-Class heroes border-lining S-Class in strength and beats up everyone present with the exception of Sitch and Speed-o'-Sound Sonic as Sonic had left said meeting pre-haste. As he leaves proclaiming this was the epic intro of Garou the Human Monster, he promises to come bursting through the front door of the Hero Association in six months time after his training journey was over. Musing perhaps he will fight King, the strongest hero in their ranks one day while out on his jaunt.

The Blizzard Group Arc

Garou begins his hero hunt

After his rampage at the meeting, it's been revealed that Garou has a reputation and the title of "Human Monster" within the Heroes Association, but no one sees him as a threat beside Sitch. Garou later happens to encounter an upper A-Class hero Tanktop Vegetarian in an empty alleyway. He easily defeats the hero but is disappointed by the fight. When Tanktop Vegetarian threatens him about messing with heroes, Garou simply knocks him out, proclaiming excitement to fight a monster class hero.

Hero Hunt Arc

Tanktop Master senses Garou's evil intentions

Garou later meets C-Class hero Mumen Rider and threatens to attack him, but not before Tanktop Vegetarian, whom Garou had beaten and spared last afternoon, calls his Tank Topper Army to exact revenge against Garou. Suddenly, S-Class hero Tanktop Master appears and punches Garou, after Garou knocked out Tanktop Vegetarian.

Mumen Rider defends Garou from Tanktop Master's attack, but Tanktop Master knows about Garou's evil intents and the possible threat he's posing and reaches for the finishing blow. Garou counterattacks with the special technique Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist and beats Tanktop Master with ease. Tanktop Master then realizes that Garou was merely holding back. Garou then proceeds to attack all heroes present alongside Mumen Rider and Charanko, the bodies of whom are found by Bang and Bomb.

Garou catches Red Nose's punch

Garou later interrupts the conversation between three C-Class heroes and proceeds to beat them up. Afterwards he finds Tareo, a child with a catalog, containing info about the heroes. Garou asks the kid for the catalog, but the kid refuses. Garou's interest furthers once he learned that the catalog contained information about monsters as well. Garou ends up reading through the catalog to find out Golden Ball's location.

Garou finds Golden Ball in a bar and challenges him into a fight. Golden Ball eventually accepts and they head towards the parking lot. It is revealed that Golden Ball was putting up an act and begins the fight in the alley heading towards the parking lot. Garou dodges Golden Ball's first two attacks. Golden Ball initially believes that Garou was able to dodge them due to watching his hand movements and then shoots a shot that ricochets and pierces Garou's leg.

Garou defeats Spring Moustacio

Golden Ball, believing that he has the advantage now, follows up with Golden Breakout. However, Garou effortlessly dodges all of them, thus refuting Golden Ball's initial thought that Garou used Golden Ball's hand movements to dodge his bullets. In a final effort, Golden Ball fires one more shot directly at Garou. Unfortunately, the Hero Hunter is able to deflect the final bullet and also redirect the rest of the bullets into themselves, destroying them. Before Garou can attack Golden Ball, Spring Mustachio appears. Spring Mustachio then starts swinging in every direction forcing Garou to jump. Spring Mustachio then initiates his secret move, Tomboy. Garou dodges the attack, but his left hand got stabbed. Succeeding the dodge, Garou punches Spring Mustachio, launching Spring Mustachio into several trash cans and crates. Garou reveals that he knew about Spring Mustachio's secret technique and that he is now used to armed combatants.

Garou attacks Saitama

After the fight he went on to target Sweet Mask, by chance, he overheard a corrupt officer of the Hero association using his position and the heroes' name to pick up chicks and proceeded to clobber him in annoyance. Irked with dissatisfaction at the official he beat up, Saitama just happened to be around finding a wig shop, which is directly in front of Garou. Thinking Saitama is a small fry who thinks he can make a big name by arresting him, Garou attacked Saitama, sinking his feet into the ground from the impact. Unfazed, Saitama delivered a chop of his own to Garou's nape, knocking him unconscious as he proceeded to buy a wig. Garou eventually woke up on a pile of garbage bags with a fuzzy memory.

Monster Raid Arc

Garou returns to his hideout, wrapping his injuries and checking the wall of photos of heroes he possibly wants to fight. Garou is later seen talking with Tareo, the same child with a catalog and asks him the whereabouts of the S-Class hero Watchdog Man, with the intention of fighting him. However, their conversation is interrupted by S-City's alert about a Demon level monsters and Metal Bat. Garou then tells Tareo to run while he looks forward to fighting Metal Bat.

Garou arrives to the scene just when Metal Bat has launched hundreds of meters across the city. Initially believing Metal Bat got defeated by Elder Centipede, Garou decides to go after Watchdog Man. However, Metal Bat soon gets up and begins heading back to fight Elder Centipede. This causes Garou to attack Metal Bat.

Garou is later seen fighting Metal Bat on an empty city and comments that he's disappointed that he was being unable to see Metal Bat's true strength due to the exhaustion of his fight against Elder Centipede. Metal Bat retaliates against Garou's comment with an attack, but Garou manages to dodge it. Garou is surprised by Metal Bat's persistence despite Metal Bat's numerous injuries but insists that Metal Bat is at his limit. Suddenly, Metal Bat rushes to Garou with incredible speed. Garou still manages to avoid Metal Bat's attacks and attempts to counterattack, but Garou's attack is no longer able to faze Metal Bat either. Garou notes that Metal Bat's speed and attack power have increased significantly. Garou asks Metal Bat for the reason for this sudden increase in physical strength and Metal Bat simply explains that "It's Fightin' Spirit!". Metal Bat tells Garou to hurry up with the fight. Garou replies that he'll play for a little bit to see how long Metal Bat can keep up his fighting spirit.

Garou throws a manhole cover at Metal Bat, but Metal Bat hits it back with his bat. However, Garou already managed to reach Metal Bat by the time Metal Bat followed through. Metal Bat tries the take the offensive, but none of his attacks connect. Garou continues to mock Metal Bat, asking him if he's going to persist until he dies. Metal Bat retorts by saying he'll fight until he wins and continues to attack. Garou tries to kick Metal Bat, but Metal Bat deflects it and proceeds to initiate a killing move. Fortunately, Garou manages to fairly easily repel the technique and launches a blow to Metal Bat's chest, leaving Metal Bat laying on the ground. Garou dismisses Metal Bat and Tanktop Master as hot-blooded idiots who lack counters to anti-human martial arts. Nonetheless, Garou notes that, despite being able to repel all of Metal Bat's attacks, his bones are shaking and if Metal Bat had hit him, even once, it would have ended badly. Abruptly, someone shouts, "Big Brother!".

Metal Bat is about to land a powerful blow on Garou, but stops because he hears his sister's voice. Garou then punches Metal Bat and comments that Metal Bat might have ended the fight if he did not stop the swing midway. Before the two could clash again, Zenko, Metal Bat's sister, jumps in front of Metal Bat and says to Garou the fight is over because her brother promised to not fight in front of her. Though reluctant, Garou accepts and then leaves the fight to look for Watchdog Man.

While leaving, Garou is being watched over by Phoenix Man and Sludge Jellyfish. They discuss that Garou could be useful. When Sludge Jellyfish tries to capture Zenko, it is attacked by Garou, stating that he does not like being watched. Phoenix Man quickly comes and tells Garou that they are not enemies. Both monsters try to be friendly and invite him to the Monster Association. Garou turns them down and demands them to leave. The Mysterious Beings decide to leave but say to him that they will definitely meet again later if Garou continues to hero hunt. When the monsters are finally out of sight, Garou simply says, "Disgusting".

Super Fight Arc

Watchdog Man toys with Garou

Garou reaches the Watchdog Plaza to search for Watchdog Man. Watchdog Man is sitting on top of what was a Monster Association invasion force of many monsters. Garou attempts to attack Watchdog Man while the hero is sitting.

However, due to Garou's underestimation of Watchdog Man, he quickly becomes overwhelmed by Watchdog Man's fast and powerful attacks to the point that he cannot even read his wild and unpredictable movement. All the training he had been through with Bang was never meant to be used to fight monsters and as a result, all his techniques were countered effortlessly by Watchdog Man. After being severely injured by Watchdog Man, he runs away and Watchdog Man stops chasing him once Garou escapes his territory. Despite the outcome, he feels excited about the battle since he now has the experience needed to battle monsters properly and embraces the happiness that he can become stronger.

During this time, he sees King and Saitama in which he tries to attack King, despite his injuries. As he is about to confidently lay a hit on King's body after reading all of his possible movements, he fails to notice Saitama. As a result, he is sent flying by Saitama with a single kick and smashed through a wall.

Monster Association Arc

After recovering from being knocked into a wall, he unintentionally encounters Death Gatling and decides that it's best for him to recover and rest due to the injuries he sustained from Watchdog Man and King (Saitama). As he stumbles away, Death Gatling looks over and spots him.

Garou is seen recovering from his injuries in his hideout and re-encounters Tareo. Tareo explains to Garou he has to leave the hut, but Garou figures Tareo was bullied into it. Garou tells Tareo that if he wants to stand up to his friends he has to become strong, which Tareo already knew. Garou then sensed that he was surrounded and asks Tareo for the hero catalog.

Stinger stops Garou's attack on Gun-Gun

Garou asks Tareo for the hero catalog to identify each one of the heroes outside his shack. After identifying all of the heroes, he proceeds to exit the shack. Death Gatling tells Garou that they are here to capture him, but Garou retorts that with Death Gatling and his group, the hero hunt will surpass 100 heroes. Gun Gun quickly opens fire on Garou, but Garou easily dodges and attempts to counterattack. However, he is forced to dodge again because of Stinger's attack. Stinger's attack is quickly followed up with Arrow Rain from Shooter, which Garou also manages to dodge. Chain'n'toad begins the next wave of attacks as Smile Man attacks from above as Wild Horn attacks from behind.

Gun Gun manages to land a hit as tries to attack Wild Horn. Stinger follows up and manages to cut Garou's arm. Garou notices that Glasses lack of action, but is then hit by Chain'n'toad's weapon and attacked by Smile Man again. Chain'n'toad uses his Ear Cutter technique but failed to injure Garou a second time. Smile Man and Chain'n'toad proceed to continuously herry Garou before the Human Monster has any time to recover. Arrow Rain comes down as Smile Man, Chain'n'toad, and Gun Gun attack all at once. Despite twisting in the air, Garou is hit by two of the arrows. Glasses resupplies Shooter before Garou tries to go after the hero. Glasses manages to dodge Garou's initial attack and lands a hit on Garou as the Hero Hunter is distracted by the heroes behind him and the pebbles thrown by Glasses. Afterwards, Death Gatling gives Garou one last chance to surrender.

Garou defeats Gun Gun

As he continues to fight the heroes, flashbacks of his childhood come back to Garou, as he remembers all of the villains that were unfairly defeated just because they were outnumbered by the heroes. Chain'n'toad attacks Garou with his chain, but to his surprise, Garou managed to intercept the chain, even though the chain was aimed at his blind spot. Smile Man then attacks Garou from behind with his kendama and throws it at him. Garou, however, catches the kendama and redirects it toward Chain'n'toad, taking him out of the battle. Gun Gun fires his pistol at Garou, but Garou uses Smile Man's kendama to shield himself from the bullets. Then, he propels the kendama toward Gun Gun, knocking him out in the process. The next hero who attacks is Wild Horn, who uses his Pile Bison and destroys the kendama.

However, Garou wraps the chain from Chain'n'toad around Wild Horn's legs to prevent him from escaping and also preventing Shooter from firing his poisonous arrows. Glasses then throws several pebbles at Garou while he was distracted, but Garou easily catches the pebbles. Taunting Glasses by saying it was just what he needed, he threw the pebbles with blinding speed at Shooter, effectively knocking him unconscious. Stinger attempts to strike him with his Roaring Bamboo Shoot Gigantic attack, but Garou once again uses Wild Horn as a barrier. Garou then runs toward Stinger at full speed, telling him it would be one-on-one, to which Stinger accepts, telling the other heroes to stay out of his way. But just as Garou is going to strike Stinger, he changes his target and hits Smile Man square in the jaw, taking him out of the fight.

Next, Death Gatling fires at Garou, to which Garou dodges, all the while running to his next target: Glasses. Garou strikes him with a flurry of punches. Glasses attempts to retaliate with a right punch, but Garou blocks the punch and hits him square in the jaw. A few meters away, Stinger decides to intervene and save Glasses from this torturous onslaught and attacks Garou with his Gigantic Drill Stinger, but Garou expertly intercepts the bamboo and counters with a left punch to Stinger's face, continuing with a consecutive string of blows to his chest.

Garou intercepts Death Gatling's Death Shower

Behind him, Glasses works through the pain and tries to strike him, but Garou nails him hard in the stomach with a right elbow, removing him from the battle. With only Death Gatling remaining, the hero states to Garou he considers him a monster, revoking his previous idea to take him alive and declaring he will finish him off. Garou tells him not to attack, as a child is in the building behind him, but Death Gatling ignores his words. Death Gatling uses his ultimate attack: Death Shower, in which he quickly empties all of his bullets and fires a very quick round of bullets. Alas, Garou manages to intercept all of the bullets, leaving the building behind him still standing.

Garou fights Genos

After receiving an emergency call from Glasses, who is with Death Gatling and their group of heroes to ambush Garou and failed, Genos arrives to fight the already extremely weakened Garou. Genos and Garou's fists collide midair, propelling Garou back. Genos follows up his attack with his Machine Gun Blows, giving Garou a tough go of it. Garou retaliates with his Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist, but Genos ducks and strikes him with a punch that's propelled by a booster integrated into his elbow. Garou intercepts the attack, then counters with a left knee to Genos' head. The attack sends Genos into the ground, and Garou prepares to land the final blow. However, Genos fires an incineration blast, to which Garou just barely manages to evade.

Garou proclaims that he is the strongest monster

Genos gets back up by thrusting himself upward with turbines built on his back, and he intently observes and analyzes Garou's movements. Genos tells Garou to surrender, as Garou's legs are about to give out, but instead, Garou jumps up into the trees and changes his movements to mimic that of Watchdog Man. Genos is momentarily caught off guard by this change of battle style, and Garou uses this moment to rip off Genos' right arm. Alas, Genos arm is still operational, and the right arm grabs Garou's neck. The arm uses its rocket propeller and slams Garou into a tree, using wires to trap Garou in the process. Genos then taunts Garou that he is just a thug not a serious threat to be worth the time to take care of, unlike the Monster Association. Genos then lifts his arm and prepares to fire his incineration blast, but Garou pushes his legs onto the tree and breaks it apart, saving himself from the incineration blast. He then jumps into the roof of the shed and mixes his blood into his hair. Garou proclaims that the Hero Association doesn't need to look any further since he is the most powerful monster and he is not some common thug.

Bang interrupts the battle

Genos prepares another attack, but from the ground, a horde of monsters tunnel out of the ground and simultaneously attack Genos to protect Garou, but the monsters are all swiftly defeated. A flower monster appears behind Garou telling him that the Monster Association has recognized his talent and wants to recruit him into their rank as one of the top executive members. However, due to Garou's lone wolf nature, he coldly rejects the offer and tells the monster to get out of his sight. The monster then tries to forcefully capture him to join their rank because of its order from the Monster Association but is bisected by Genos's arm-blade. After taking care of the monsters, Genos proclaims that he cannot be defeated by a surprise attack like this and he has to follow the teaching of Saitama to become stronger by training both mind and body. As a result, Garou then questions Genos about Saitama, in which he proudly states that Saitama is the mightiest hero that no monsters can hope to surpass. For the third time, Genos readies his incineration cannon, but this time, the one to intervene is none other than Bang and Bomb. Genos is surprised to see them both present, and he proceeds to do battle with the other monsters still flooding out of the hole in the ground.

While Bomb and Genos fight off the monsters, Bang stands hovering over Garou, admonishing his weakened and abominable state, and tells Garou to stand up and fight him. Garou does as his former master says, and the two of them ready their stances. Garou lunges for Bang and attempts to attack him with the Flowing Water Rock Streaming Fist, but before he even has time to react, Garou is viciously pummeled by Bang.

As he is pummeled rapidly by Bang, Garou tries to counter-attack against his former teacher but his efforts are in vain due to his weakened state and their difference in Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist mastery. He ends up continuing to be overwhelmed. Knowing that he cannot win, he attempts to use Watchdog Man’s fighting style escape and uses Death Gatling's unconscious body as a meat shield to cover his escape. However, Bomb intercepts him and kicks him in the face toward the group of remaining monsters, causing the monsters to be shredded by Bomb's razor-sharp Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist.

Afterward, Bomb and Bang combine their martial arts against Garou. In a state of great pain, Garou remembers his miserable past as a misunderstood child being bullied. In his anger and despair, he commences a counterattack with Tanktop Master's Tanktop Blow and grabs a huge tree during the confusion, and then swings at both Bomb and Bang making them back off. Phoenix Man suddenly appears and creates immense air pressure that launches Garou, Bomb and Bang away. Phoenix Man proceeds to grab Garou in the air while calling for Elder Centipede to cover their escape as Genos aims at the two. Despite Garou's protest, he cannot do anything against Phoenix Man as he is being escorted to the Monster Association HQ.

After being rescued by the Monster Association, Garou sees the association has captured Narinki's Private Squad to be put on trial and the unexpected recruitment of a mysterious G5. During the trial, a voice in his head, presumably Psykos tells him to remain low profile until the trial is over. Once the trial is over, with Do-S takes it to brainwash the captured Private Squad for the Monster Association’s usefulness, Royal Ripper senses Garou’s scent and tells him to now to reveal himself. Later, Garou speaks with Gyoro Gyoro and the rest of the association’s members, as well as its leader Orochi, who promotes Garou as one of the executive members of the association with the condition that he has to murder a hero in one day without hesitation in order to prove that he is a real monster. Unaware to Garou, Gyoro sends Royal Ripper and Bug God to keep an eye on Garou, should he fail.

Garou flicks a person

A new group agrees with the monster outbreak. They attempt to capture a citizen for disagreeing with their ideology but bump into Garou. Garou knocks them out with a flick, stating that they underestimate monsters, before heading off. As a news broadcast about societies downward spiral gets underway, Garou agrees with one of the Anchor's co-hosts berating the citizenship for the shameful behavior displayed by the great many who're committing horrendous acts throughout various cities. Vacating to a nearby restaurant while a drunk delinquent gets in a fight with an elderly person; the human monster is quick to frighten the hooligan off when they try to threaten Garou with a knife. Sitting alone ruminating on his disappointment with humanity as a whole due to the half measures of the Monster Association throwing society into chaos, Garou eats everything on the menu within the restaurant before dashing out. Later, Garou scares away Tareo’s “Friends”, who were bullying Tareo. Tareo thanks Garou for his heroism, to which Garou is disgusted by. Soon enough Saitama catches up to Garou and lets Garou off with a warning. This severely angers Garou, thinking that heroes have started to take pity on him. He resolves to carry out his task by bringing back Saitama's head, but Saitama accidentally punches Garou, knocking him out. Sometime later, Garou wakes up and asks Tareo who the hero was. Immediately after, Bug God and Royal Ripper confront Garou for not seeming like a monster. Royal Ripper approaches Tareo, to which Garou tells him to back off.

Garou is seen assuming a stance in front of Tareo and forming a fist as Bug God and Royal Ripper approach the pair. Royal Ripper reveals that Gyoro Gyoro had sent him and Bug God to follow and monitor Garou. After observing his behavior, they now have doubts about Garou’s intent, questioning whether he is a true monster or not. Garou then proceeds to provoke Royal Ripper to little use, as the latter then demands the former to kill Tareo. Garou then inquiries about the reasoning behind the request, to which Bug God replies that one must leave behind what makes them human in order to qualify as a monster. Royal Ripper reaffirms this statement and continues, adding the fact that Garou might not be the best candidate after being defeated by Saitama. Garou then proceeds to tell Tareo to go home, but he was unable to do so because of fear. Due to this, Tareo is berated by Garou, who then forces the hero catalog out of his hand, saying that the boy needs to get stronger during times like these. While doing so, Royal Ripper attacks Tareo. The attack is quickly stopped by Garou, who hoisted Royal Ripper up in the air by his blades and swiftly delivered a kick to his opponent’s abdomen. Royal Ripper then flies into the air as a result but is quick to get back on his feet by thrusting his blades onto the ground and perform a somersault with the two blades acting as anchoring points. The move severely disfigured his arms, but Royal Ripper restores his limbs back to their original state by twisting them back. Then, Garou yells at Tareo, telling him to run. The boy complies and is seen dashing away. As he is doing so, Royal Ripper announces Garou to be an enemy. Garou then assumes a stance as the two monsters charge at him.

As the two monsters charge, Garou delivers a punch towards Bug God’s torso. Unfortunately, this injures his own hand. Royal Ripper then performs a chain of frenzied slashes aimed at Garou, but they are all dodged or reflected. As Garou is busy with Royal Ripper’s chain of attacks, Bug God approaches him from behind but is bombarded with a flurry of deflected slashes originating from Royal Ripper. The monster is undeterred by this as he quickly pounds Garou into the ground and then flings him onto electric cables, which briefly electrocutes Garou. Garou immediately rebounds himself towards the two monsters as they leap towards him. The three eventually enter a stalemate, with Garou now confident in his abilities to defeat his opponents, stating they are nothing compared to Bang, while the pair of monsters decide to go all out. Garou is not discouraged by this, even going on to say that he has seen everything they have to offer and will not be hit by them again. It then transpires that Tareo was captured by Sludge Jellyfish, with Garou enraged that the monster has returned, recalling Metal Bat’s battle. Garou is briefly distracted, so Royal Ripper takes the chance to brutally slash him in the back. Garou is subsequently struck in the torso by Bug God before ultimately being assailed with a series of slashes leaving him in a pool of blood. Bug God quickly puts a stop to the assault, explaining that Gyoro-Gyoro asked for Garou to be left alive. Royal Ripper ceases attacking but declares that it might be too late for Garou. He then invites Tareo back home with an eerie grin, saying that they will be great friends.

Garou goes for some payback

After a while, Garou wakes up and is perplexed upon what happened at first before recalling fighting and being defeated by Royal Ripper and Bug God. He also realises that Tareo was kidnapped by the monsters but brushes it aside while wondering how he managed to heal himself, with his bandages sticking to his open wounds. Upon recovering, Garou then proceeds to the Monster Association HQ while also seemingly undergoing a change in his body. Much later, Garou breaks into the facility just in time to save Tareo from Royal Ripper. Despite being stabbed in the gut by the monster, Garou punched Royal Ripper's head off with one blow, killing him in the process, before using the Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist to shred the monster to pieces. He and Tareo then make their escape only to encounter two monsters who were quickly dispatched by Garou. The Hero Hunter devours one of the limbs of the monsters to replenish himself before proceeding with Tareo. As they make their escape, Tareo tells him that there is another child that is in need of rescuing but that's not Garou's concern and he did not come here to save Tareo, either. However, before the two can continue, they are confronted by Overgrown Rover.

He and Tareo manage to not provoke Rover, but they encounter Super Mouse, Showerhead and Unihorn. While he manages to hold his own, the monsters accidentally injure Rover and he proceeds to attack them. Garou fights Rover and is knocked through the floor to where Gyoro Gyoro resides. There, Gyoro Gyoro restrains Garou with her psychic powers and tells him that she wants to raise Garou into the most powerful monster through a special nurturing process. Garou denies it and begins to resist the psychic powers, a confrontation in which he manages to outmaneuver around all of her psychic powers at first, declaring that he will hunt Gyoro Gyoro and with the brain of the Monster Association gone, it will naturally collapse on itself. Seeing the need for aid, Gyoro Gyoro enlists Orochi's intervention, grabbing Garou and crushing him. They battle and Garou uses Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist to defend himself.

Garou is pierced, scorched, punched and thrown across the room. Garou proclaims that Orochi is not a true monster as he is missing one vital component — fear. Garou feels no fear from him and moves to his fighting stance. Orochi copies him and through their battle, Orochi has learned Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist. Garou mocks him and they battle once more only for Garou to be knocked unconscious.

Garou's awakening

Soon after his defeat at the hands of Orochi, Garou is imprisoned in chains much deeper within the Monster Association's hideout. Puri-Puri Prisoner, while burrowing through the underground base, stumbles upon Garou. Thinking he's a hostage of some sort, he moves to release him, only for Garou to suddenly stir. Garou then breaks his chains and brutally attacks the S-Class hero, bringing him to his knees with a single flurry of punches. He then observes as Superalloy Darkshine finds Puri-Puri Prisoner and vows to defeat Garou for him, and the two begin to fight.

Upon sustaining a fierce blow from Darkshine, Garou snaps out of his blind rage and comes to his senses. He wonders where Orochi is and if Tareo managed to escape. Darkshine gives Garou a chance to surrender and join the Hero Association, but Garou refuses. Disappointed, Darkshine proceeds to attack Garou with a tackle, which he is incapable of deflecting the attack with Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist, launching the Hero Hunter through several walls and breaking all of his ribs. However, Garou still stands back up, and begins taunting and mentally attacking Darkshine as he continues his onslaught of blows. Garou subconsciously acquires Cross Fang Dragon Slayer Fist as Darkshine realizes he is moving faster and faster, and fear suddenly enters the hero's heart. He counters with a brutal punch, but Garou manages to block the attack.

As the Hero Hunter continues his brutal assault, Darkshine comments in his own mind that Garou's speed isn't the only thing that's been magnified as his physical power has been steadily climbing too. As if a testament to such claims the next series of blows launched at the S-Class hero not only knocked him clean through several walls into an open space, but even powderized the area around Darkshine on his way through.

Realizing that the former had only used him to further galvanize his martial arts. Darkshine shakily rises again as the Hero Hunter moves to prey upon him some-more, taunting the physically robust paragon about putting a stop to his Monster Play.

Garou pins down Darkshine

Garou and Darkshine continue their battle only this time with the hero on the losing end of their conflict. With his defenses waning bit by bit and means of assault cut off before such a savage barrage, Darkshine quickly finds himself outmatched by the tenacious rogue, so much so that the thought of losing to someone stronger than he was paralyzes Darkshine with fear. With his opponent's confidence destroyed, Garou moves in to deliver a final blow on his enemy, but falls back after seeing his fearful expression. As the terrified hero's debilitated state reminded him of the times he himself had been demoralized in such a manner. Backing off on his assault after parrying the weak counterattack by the shaken adversary. Garou ruminates on his own desires of becoming the ultimate monster for a brief period, before his own body begins to cave in due to his abrupt monsterization taking effect.

Just as Darkshine moves in to check up on Garou, a psychokinetic barrier forms around the hero as the surrounding area begins to collapse. Although the hero is lifted away to safety at the last minute, a still-paralyzed Garou is left underneath the crumbling base. As he lays there, Garou has an epiphany, realizing he must become the kind of absolute evil that unites people instead of the biased justice they have today. Garou has a flashback to when he called himself a monster and transforms.

A short while later, he, in his "unconsciousness" state, emerges aboveground in front of Bomb and Fubuki. He lunges towards them with blinding speed and he and Bomb attack each other, seemingly on equal footing. Garou attempts to attack Fubuki, but Bomb blocks his punch and body slams him away. The two of them continue trading blows a short distance away, and Bomb notes Garou's increasing fighting skills. As Garou lunges, Bomb shatters the ground with his foot and launches his signature Whirlwind Iron Cutting Fist attack, but Garou cancels out the technique by responding with the same attack, following up with an elbow strike that knocks Bomb down. Bang arrives, and the master and the student face off again.

They begin engaging in combat and the two of them are capable of fighting evenly against each other. Garou manages to make his former master bleed after a brief clash, causing Bang to remark that he is now much more worth teaching than before. As their fight continues, Garou suddenly takes the stance of Exploding Heart Release Fist, a martial art style that Bang primarily used before developing Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist, which surprises his former master. Utilizing his new fighting style, Garou is able to overwhelm Bang, pushing him back and significantly injuring him. However; Bang refuses to give up, attempting to reach him by the voice hidden within his fists and expressing his desire to be Garou's master once again after he retires from being a hero.

The two continue to fight, with Garou gaining the upper hand against Bang, but is momentarily grappled and kicked away by his former master. Garou then demonstrates his Roaring Aura Sky Ripping Fist, to the shock of his master, and crosses fists with Bang in a rapid clash of blows until they simultaneously attempt to land a final hit on each other. Bang successfully punches Garou in the face, drawing a noticeable amount of blood from him and cracking his face, while Garou simply grazes Bang's chest but the shockwave from his blow is still strong enough to cause a heavy toll on him, which makes his former master finally fall defeated after a tough fight.

Having defeated his former master, Garou is apparently in agony as his face was damaged by Bang's final blow. The hard exterior in his face begins to partially shatter, exposing only his left eye. As he seemingly hears Bang telling him to follow the voice of his heart, Garou finally wakes up and regains his senses. Meanwhile, Fuhrer Ugly has approached Bang and is about to finish him off with his Full Body Melting Punch, trying to take his revenge on the elder martial artist. At this moment, Garou suddenly lets forth a monstrous roar and interrupts Fuhrer Ugly by kicking a large hole straight through his body before his acidic punch could reach Bang, inflicting a fatal injury on the monster. Immediately after, Garou dashes towards Platinum Sperm, who is confronting King, and sends the former flying with a single punch, before proceeding to scatter Evil Natural Water with multiple blows, seemingly beating them in only a split second.

While Garou is standing on the ground and muttering about his former master as he has regained his senses, a black wormhole emerges near him as it releases Saitama, Flashy Flash and Manako, who have been teleported to the surface by Blast. Garou prepares to face off against Saitama, but is surprised as the caped hero runs past him to Genos. Left standing there alone, Garou wonders what happened, recalling that he remembers being underground but then dreaming about one of Bang's lessons in the past. Flashy Flash tries to surprise attack Garou with a kick, but the Hero Hunter dodges it, successfully identifying the ninja as the S-Class hero rank 13 and chastising him for launching a dirty attack. Flashy Flash asks him if he is the Monster King, but Garou instead declares his intent to rise to disaster level God and straighten the world out. Suddenly, Platinum Sperm interrupts and attacks the two of them, expressing disappointment that Garou would not join the monster side.

Garou and Flash are unfazed by the attack, and they both stand up, with Garou declaring that he will thrash the other two and rise up to become the ultimate symbol of fear, disaster level "God". The three of them soon start their free-for-all battle. As Flashy Flash and Platinum Sperm charge at Garou, he jumps into the air and stomps downward, creating a shockwave and sending large chunks of ground into the air. Jumping from rock to rock, the three opponents move with such blinding speed that it creates a geometric light structure above the battleground. During the fight, Platinum Sperm proposes to Garou that they join forces to defeat Flashy Flash, but he instead punches Platinum Sperm after pretending as if he has agreed, laughing and expressing contempt at taking orders from him. While the fight goes on, Garou finally perfects his fighting style using everything he has absorbed, showcasing his Monster Calamity God Slayer Fist and momentarily repelling Platinum Sperm and Flashy Flash.

The three of them continue to trade blows, and Flashy Flash ultimately ends up being the first to fall after being knocked out by Platinum Sperm. Now fighting one-on-one, Garou and Platinum Sperm begin to increase their speed even further, making the light structure denser. After exchanging multitudes of blows evenly with him within only 1.3 milliseconds, Garou manages to send Platinum Sperm skyrocketing down into ground. An injured Platinum Sperm gets up, becomes furious and calls out him. At this moment, Garou dashes through him at lightning speed, delivering a double spear hand attack that causes the fusion monster to explode into bits.

After his victory against Platinum Sperm, the two giantic monsters Sage Centipede and Evil Ocean Water suddenly emerge, the former announcing intent to destroy "The Abominable Fist That Has Turned Against God". Garou immediately springs into action, leaping to Sage Centipede and pummeling him.

Having stunned the giant centipede with his combo attacks, Garou boasts of how his fist can even strike fear into God, let alone one of the latter's underlings. Taking a moment to spot a moving helicopter with Tareo onboard, Garou breaths a sigh of relief as the boy managed to escape the Monster Association Headquaters. Sage Centipede realizes that Garou is concerned about the helicopter and orders him to stop moving, otherwise Evil Ocean Water will strike down the escape vehicle.

As Garou hesitates, Sage Centipede launches its counterattack. Evil Natural Water's attack follows which causes Garou to be sent flying back, significantly injuring him but Garou soon recovers afterwards. The assault is momentarily effective until Metal Bat unexpectedly appears, rushing aid against the Monster Association. Despite their adversarial history, Garou and Metal Bat join forces to protect the helicopter. The duo engage in a vigorous assault, but Garou is dismayed to find Metal Bat's attacks ineffective against their quarry. He suggests a massive simultaneous attack, but the hero states that it would require numerous S-Class heroes. Despite Garou's annoyance at Metal Bat's lagging pace, they finally catch up with the rescue copter. During the battle, Garou finds himself caught by the centipede but manages to escape, thanks to a distraction caused by One Shotter. He lands several decisive blows against Sage Centipede, ultimately freeing the captives. Metal Bat then launches a counteroffensive, bolstered by his Fighting Spirit.

Garou throws the damaged helicopter to safety before resuming his battle. Despite their adversarial relationship, their union strangely amplifies their powers, leading to coordinated attacks. Metal Bat is ultimately defeated but Garou manages to land a blow on the monster, ripping out its regenerative core. He launches it into the air, prompting the monster to give chase to take back its core. Garou follows suit, and when Sage Centipede extends its immense length and catches its core, he launches towards the core and uses it as a platform to jump downwards the centipede, destroying the core in the process. With a single hand-chop, he slices Sage Centipede in half vertically, all the way down to the surface, killing the monster.

After defeating Sage Centipede, Garou realizes the surrounding heroes have all been beaten, noting how it's about time he started achieving his goal, of becoming "Absolute Evil". As he wonders what happened to Evil Natural Water, Saitama suddenly appears and asks him what he is. He answers Saitama's question by stating that he is a monster who will cast all of humanity into the depths of despair and become "Absolute Evil". Saitama is confused about whether Garou is evil considering Garou once rescued a helicopter from Sage Centipede. Garou reasons that he needs witnesses to spread fear and to know he is stronger than any hero and monster, stating that "Absolute Evil" correlates with absolute strength. Garou then tells Saitama to leave and quit his hero job as he claims he will soon destroy both the Monster Association and Hero Association. After listening to Garou, Saitama begins to leave without acknowledging Garou as a monster, which prompts Garou to doubt if the hero is following what he said. Saitama, with a frustrated expression, says to him that he went out of his way to complain about the noise and somehow his house later got destroyed. Hence, he is very upset and states that he would rather blow up the entire planet, which makes Garou shiver. As Saitama leaves, Garou calls out to him, claiming that he will pay should he underestimate "Absolute Evil" and charges at him with a punch. Unfortunately for Garou, Saitama is faster and with an impulsive punch, knocks Garou back before he can land the hit. After being punched, Garou manages to remember Saitama, identifying him as the bald guy he's run into several times before.

Garou is defeated by Saitama

The fight between the two begins and when faced with Saitama's overwhelming strength, Garou is clearly outmatched. The situation takes a turn when Tareo momentarily interrupts the battle, infuriating Garou as the boy continuously mistakes him for a hero. Saitama, aware of Tareo's admiration and concern for Garou, assures the boy that he will stop Garou without killing him. Their fight intensifies and despite Garou's power-ups throughout their exchange of blows, Saitama remains unbeatable. Furthermore, Garou's actions during the fight inadvertently cause heroic incidents, adding to his frustration. As they clash, Garou realizes Saitama is the one true obstacle to his ambitions. He is soon defeated by the hero and laments how it is unfair to be beaten by such overwhelming injustice. At this moment, "God" takes on the appearance of Bang and approaches Garou, offering him divine power to overcome Saitama. Despite recognizing that it is not the real Bang, Garou unintentionally receives power from "God" when slapping its hand away, causing the power to surge through his body and nearly render him unconscious. Empowered by this newfound force, Garou confronts Saitama once more, adopting a transformed appearance which he dubs Awakened Garou: Cosmic Fear Mode.

With the enhanced power received from "God" and equipped with a comprehensive understanding of cosmic energies and forces, Garou unleashes a barrage of nuclear explosions from his fists toward Saitama, who manages to withstand them. He surprisingly demonstrates the ability to copy Saitama's technique and strength as well, utilizing his own Consecutive Normal Punches against the Caped Baldy's himself. Their attacks collide which results in a forceful recoil that sends them both backward. Explaining how he can not only copy others' fighting styles and techniques, but also improve them to perfection to surpass the proficiency of the original user, and that he needs to show Tareo how powerless heroes can be, Garou prepares to unleash his Gamma Ray Burst, a powerful energy blast, on Saitama who jumps into the air for the attack to not hit the Earth. He directly hits Saitama with the powerful energy beam, sending the hero flying far away.

Garou confronts many heroes in the surface of Z-City

With Saitama absent, Garou confronts numerous heroes in the desolate remains of Z-City, including Bang. His master questions what happened to him and after Garou recounts his encounter with "God" from which he gained his power, he declares it's time to conduct evil, slowly approaching the heroes. His body releases massive amounts of harmful radiation which endangers the lives of the surrounding heroes. Bang suspects that Garou may be under external influence, a suspicion confirmed by the arrival of Blast, the top-ranking hero, who reveals that Garou is subconsciously being controlled by "God," to their surprise. Blast tells Garou to look at his vicinity where almost all nearby heroes have collapsed due to the cosmic radiation he is emitting, and suggests that he go to a different dimension to protect the Earth. Garou simply laughs and proclaims how he looks like a real symbol of fear since his presence now causes death. Bang attempts to stop Garou and just as he is about to settle things with his master, Genos, using the remaining bits of power he has left, hurls himself towards him and headbutts him in the chest, although to no avail. He picks up Genos and as he is about to kill the cyborg, Blast intervenes, attacks him to save the young S-Class, and a fight occurs.

Initially, Garou seems overwhelmed by Blast's unconventional abilities, but quickly he retaliates and copies the top-ranking hero's fighting styles, gaining access to both of his capabilities to open hyperspace portals and manipulate gravity. He goes on the offensive, forcing Blast to defend himself who is trying to minimize collateral damage. After a brief skirmish, Garou acknowledges Blast's worthiness as S-Class Rank 1 but expresses disinterest in him. Switching his focus on Genos instead and to provoke Saitama to unleash his full strength, Garou picks up the helpless cyborg by the hair and impales through his chest with his hand, tearing off Genos's power core and killing him.

Later, Saitama returns and experiences a wave of depression upon realizing that Garou has killed his disciple and many other heroes. Blast, who is still fine, watches and warns the Caped Baldy to stay back. Driven by rage and grief, Saitama charges at Garou with a Serious Punch, prompting Garou to copy and attempt to counter it with his own copied Serious Punch. Recognizing the immense power behind their fists, Blast quickly teleports them to space out of concern for the planet's safety. Beyond Earth's atmosphere, Saitama and Garou collide, unleashing massive waves of energy that pose a threat to the planet below. Unable to contain the energy alone, Blast is joined by three of his comrades who help redirect the energy away from Earth. As a result, Saitama and Garou are propelled to Io, one of Jupiter's moons, by the force of their punches' recoil.

On the moon of Jupiter, Io, Garou first wonders how he can return to Earth and shares the same concern with Saitama, who dismisses him and wants to beat him up first before worrying about that. A fierce battle ensues between them on the celestial body, during which Garou's unusual abilities, such as opening portals, manipulating gravity, and copying powers, allow him to slightly hold his own against the Caped Baldy. Ultimately, Garou is defeated by the overwhelming power and growth potential of Saitama and at his mercy. After getting back on Earth alongside the hero, he notices the dead body of Tareo around who died of the cosmic radiation he emited and begins crying, stating how he had killed the boy whom he wanted to save first after changing the world. Filled with remorse, he decides to impart his most formidable technique, which involves manipulating time, to Saitama. He hopes that Saitama can master it and use it to travel back in time. Shortly after performing the technique, Garou is killed by "God." However, Saitama manages to acquire the technique and successfully embarks on a journey through time.

Garou is defeated by Saitama, who has come back from the future

Saitama goes back to the past, carrying with him the core of the deceased Genos from the future, arriving precisely at the moment when Garou, following the release of his Gamma Ray Burst, confronts numerous heroes. Garou is then punched in the face by Saitama and immediately defeated, thus preventing the Ominous Future from happening again. Having successfully altered the course of events, Saitama is abruptly thrust back into his "past" self, merging with his past identity and losing all recollection of the Ominous Future. In the midst of confusion after suffering defeat from a mysterious knockout punch that appeared out of nowhere, Garou cries out in agony as the divine power of "God" begins escaping from his body, leaving the watching heroes in shock.

Garou fully awakened

Garou finally emerges from the rubble near Fubuki, who had just defeated Psykos and was shocked by his appearance. He had almost finished transforming into a monster and claimed that he was going to be responsible for the Ominous Future that had driven Psykos insane, proclaiming himself to be disaster level God. After dealing with Fubuki, Garou rips through Black Sperm, reducing him to a single cell, in order to get him away from Tareo. He also dealt a mighty blow to the surprised Golden Sperm's face. Garou and Golden Sperm then had a battle that was too fast for any of the heroes present to follow, resulting in the death of Golden Sperm and Garou completing his transformation into a monster.

Excited by his victory, Garou began to pummel the rest of the heroes present, quickly defeating them all with ease. Zombieman was the only hero able to stand long enough to speak to him, so Garou briefly explained his motivations to him. He also claimed to have developed a new technique of martial art known as "Monster Calamity God Slayer Fist". Puri-Puri Prisoner emerged from the rubble with Darkshine and Saitama, but Garou ignored Saitama's attempts to intervene and continued to fight the other heroes. Amused by their inability to fight back, Garou then proclaimed that he was going to kill Tareo and challenged them to stop him. Zombieman was the only one who stood in his way and could do nothing but get torn to shreds by the human monster.

Suddenly, Evil Natural Water appeared, having been attracted to the scene by the emotions of those there and threatening to finish off the heroes, so Garou let it have its way. However, it is blasted into droplets by Saitama in an instant, and he asks Garou who he is. Garou attacks Saitama, surprised when he finds he can keep up so easily. The two fought, and despite his best efforts, the human monster found that he couldn't defeat the Caped Baldy, growing increasingly frustrated over the course of the battle. Saitama not only beat him physically but mentally as he forced him to realize that he never wanted to be a villain but a hero. Saitama came to this conclusion because, despite being easily able to do so, Garou did not kill any of the heroes that he fought, as well as the fact that Garou stated that he wanted to create world peace through people's fear and hatred of "Garou the monster".

Many of the present heroes had gotten back up by this point and demanded that Saitama kill Garou, but the Caped Baldy refused their request, stating that Garou was still human - however, he found that he no longer wanted to live, having lost all purpose in life. The other heroes decided to kill Garou themselves, only for Bang to step in. He started beating Garou while scolding him for choosing the path in life that he did, although it was clear that his attacks were not meant to actually kill Garou, so Sweet Mask stepped in to kill Garou himself. He was interrupted by Tareo, who grabbed his leg and told him that Garou saved him twice in the past while the heroes couldn't even save him once. Seeing this, Garou was inspired to continue living and ran away, moving so quickly that only Saitama was able to see where he went.

While walking around the Final Training Ground, King stumbled upon Garou deep in meditation under a waterfall. Startled, King hid himself, but Garou had already sensed his presence and opened his eyes.

Neo Heroes Uprising Arc

Later on, the Hero Hunter is spotted by Suiryu and his Neo Heroes group moving boxes for a company. After loading the last box onto a truck, Garou receives praise from his superior, who offers to buy him a meal to congratulate him on a hard days work. Garou turns down his offer, but then is immediately shot with numerous tranquilizer darts by the band of Neo Heroes, who think they had managed to incapacitate him. However, Garou actually caught all of the darts before they hit him. The Neo Heroes barring Suiryu then decide to rush at him with their power-suits, only for the ex hero-hunter to swiftly defeat all of them. Impressed, Suiryu then steps up to challenge Garou.

The two engage in combat, during which Suiryu throws the truck belonging to Garou's employers at him. He then causes the truck to explode point-blank in Garou's face with a single punch, but Garou is left unscathed. Sensing that Garou is not even using half of his full strength, Suiryu decides to put his new battle suit to the test.

Against the added power of Suiryu's battle armor, Garou holds his own. Suiryu notices that Garou has been observing his technique and has even started to match it and realized that he would soon overwhelm him, so he tests out his suit's Limiter Release. Garou himself quickly becomes overwhelmed by Suiryu's increased speed, but the battle suit causes Suiryu to lose control over his own attacks. He proceeds to pummel Garou into the ground; only stopping after the suit malfunctions and breaks down.

Thinking he had accidentally killed him, Suiryu is shocked when Garou rises from the ground, only slightly injured. As the two square up once more, Garou's superior runs out of hiding, shouting about his destroyed truck. The superior laments having ever hired Garou and shouts at Suiryu to capture him. With his suit destroyed, Suiryu is left open and vulnerable, but a disheartened Garou walks away instead of continuing the fight.
